Yesterday we piled in the car and headed south to California. We live only 20 minutes from the Oregon/California border. Our ultimate destination was Redding, CA, with a planned stop in Yreka. As we drove into California the sky grew hazy with smoke from faraway wildfires. It is something we’re somewhat used to living in this corner of the country, but it was definitely worse than normal. We stopped for lunch in Yreka and wandered through their quaint downtown. It’s one of those small towns where they roll up the sidewalks at 5pm. We found a few treasures and continued on our way.
We have never traveled that stretch of California before. I expected some mountains, but the whole trip was mountainous. The skies cleared as we got closer to Redding. We were greeted with blue skies and sunshine. The temp was 109 degrees. Thank goodness for air conditioning in the car! We finally arrived at Men’s Warehouse to put together Chris’ wedding day attire. We both agreed that a tux would be too formal for our little country chapel. He has a suit that would work very well, but we wanted to make it stand out with some fun accessories. We ended up finding the perfect vest and a shirt with a little bit of a pattern. There was a buy one get one free sale, so he got to pick out a second vest and a second shirt. It all is very handsome. We need to find more formal occasions to attend so he can model it all.
Redding seems to be a shopping mecca. We decided to browse in the mall before heading home. Chris found a few new things to wear for work. Old Navy was having a sale and I was able to find a pair of jeans for Paige. That alone makes it a successful shopping trip. The car was filled with laughter on the way home. Paige and Chris both crack me up. I am SO grateful for our little family that doubles as a comedy troupe.
